These are general, rather common sense ideas for ways you can avoid a sciatica attack. Or reduce the level of discomfort you have when enduring one.

For instance, sitting in a car for long periods can be a problem. For added support, roll up a bath towel and wedge that between your lower back and the car seat.

At night, sleep on your side with your knees bent. It's even better to place a pillow between them. If you insist on sleeping on your back, stick a pillow under your knees to kept them bent slightly throughout the night.

When sitting in a chair sit as far back as possible. Also avoid crossing your legs if at all possible. Puts too much pressure on your lower back.

If none of this brings you relief, you might need stronger pain medication. The kind that requires a prescription.
